SATURDAY, APRIL 27th at 1:00 pm COME celebrate the remarkable achievements and boundless potential of Black students, casting a brilliant spotlight on the inspiring narrative of Black Student Success.
Why we recognize these students
Community counts when it comes to serving the "whole student". This recognition celebration offers families, educators, and community members the opportunity to affirm student strengths, growth, and divine value.
California School Dashboard reveals an overrepresentation in the percentage of suspensions administered to Foster Youth & Black students statewide and locally in relation to the percentage of those student populations.
Research supports continued family engagement as factor of increases academic achievement and a tool to combat chronic absenteeism. Establishing student and familial connections with Black affinity spaces is a phenomenal way to build support networks, access resources, and build leadership skills inside a group that attends to the needs of Black students.
"Barriers to graduating from college for some African American students is evidenced by the relatively low retention rates of Black students across the nation. Among students enrolled in four-year public institutions, 45.9% of Black students complete their degrees in six years—the lowest rate compared to other races and ethnicities. Black men have the lowest completion rate at 40%"
In honoring our ancestors, we must pass on the mantle of and accountability to our ancestral greatness because "Achievement is in our DNA". Alkebulan is the oldest and the only word of indigenous origin. It was used by the Moors, Nubians, Numidians, Khart-Haddans (Carthagenians), and Ethiopians.
I AM GREAT.
YOU ARE GREAT.
WE ARE GREAT.
CNN — Black college students have lower six-year completion rates for any type of degree or certificate program than any other racial or ethnic group because of racial discrimination, the high cost of higher education and a multitude of external responsibilities, according to a new Lumina Foundation-Gallup 2023 State of Higher Education study.
The study, found that Black students in less racially diverse programs are more likely to feel discriminated against, physically and psychologically unsafe, and disrespected, leading them to abandon their higher education goals
