WHY WE EXIST
The Black Parent Collective exists to address the persistent academic and social achievement gaps faced by Black youth in our communities. Too often, Black students are underserved, leading to disparities in educational outcomes. Our solution is to empower parents, caretakers, advocates, and educators with the tools, knowledge, and community support needed to actively participate in their children's education, ensuring that every Black student has the opportunity to thrive.

Our Approach
At the Black Parent Collective, we believe in the power of parent engagement to drive student success. Our approach focuses on equipping parents and families of Black students with the tools, resources, and support they need to become active advocates for their children’s education.
We address the unique barriers Black families often face, such as limited access to resources and negative experiences within the education system, by offering culturally responsive workshops, peer support groups, and advocacy training. By empowering parents to take an informed and active role, we help bridge the gap between home and school, fostering a network of families committed to closing the achievement gap and promoting equity in education.
Our program is scalable and adaptable, designed to meet the diverse needs of communities while building lasting, transformative impact for Black students and their families.

We believe that when parents are equipped with the right tools and knowledge, they become the most powerful advocates for their children. Through our workshops and resources, we provide parents with actionable strategies to support their children's academic and social growth. From understanding the education system to developing advocacy skills, we empower parents to take an active role in shaping their child's success.
Community Engagement
No parent should have to navigate the challenges of education alone. At the Black Parent Collective, we create a network of engaged parents who share experiences, strategies, and resources. By building a strong community of support, we empower families to uplift one another, creating a collective force that works together to overcome obstacles and ensure their children's success.
Educational Equity
Every child deserves an equal opportunity to succeed, yet systemic barriers often stand in the way. We equip parents with the skills to advocate for necessary changes in their schools and communities, ensuring that Black students receive the resources and support they deserve. Through education policy training and community action, our parents become leaders for equity in their children's education.
Policy Advocacy
The Black Parent Collective empowers parents to advocate for their children's education by providing the tools to influence school policies and practices. Through building strong relationships with educators, parents can promote equity and drive positive change within their local communities, ensuring Black students receive the support they need to succeed.

The Heart of Our Work
Black Student Success is the heart of our mission. The Black Parent Collective ascribes to organizing our lives around the well being of our children. We promote the collective power of engaged and empowered parents, families, and communities working to chart a more equitable educational landscape for our children in which they thrive. By fostering a network of engaged families, we enable parents to share strategies, advocate for educational equity, and work together to close the achievement gap for Black youth. Research and Evidence
Research indicates that parent engagement is one of the most significant predictors of student success. According to a report by the Harvard Family Research Project, "when parents are engaged, students are more likely to attend school regularly, earn higher grades, and graduate." Additionally, the National Education Association states that "strong family engagement is linked to improved academic performance and reduced dropout rates." Despite these benefits, Black parents often face systemic barriers to engagement. A study by the American Psychological Association found that Black parents are more likely to report feeling unwelcome at their children's schools and less likely to have access to resources that facilitate engagement. The Black Parent Collective seeks to address these disparities by providing a supportive, culturally responsive environment where Black parents can learn, connect, and advocate for their children's success.
Black Student Success
Encompasses not only the attainment of high grades and graduation rates but also the development of leadership skills, cultural identity, and a strong sense of belonging within the school community. Black Student Success is measured by the holistic well-being of students, their ability to thrive in academic environments, and their preparedness for post-secondary education and career opportunities.
